On October 16, 2009, we filed a lawsuit in Kern County Superior Court, Case Number CV268647, on behalf of concerned California citizens which alleges that the SmartMeters system installed by Pacific Gas & Electric (“PG&E”) is defective and results in overcharging California citizens for their electricity usage. The lawsuit was filed as a class action, and therefore, if you live in California, have PG&E as your electricity provider, had a SmartMeter installed within the last four years, and experienced an increase in your electricity bill subsequent to the installation of the SmartMeter even though your usage pattern had not changed, you are included in the current definition of the class.
|
As a putative class member, you do not need to do anything further at this time to participate in the lawsuit, however, it would assist our investigation if you could send us the specific details of your experience, including copies of your electricity bills from a few months before and after the installation of the SmartMeter, and why you believe the increase in your bill was caused by the installation of the SmartMeter rather than for other reasons, such as increased usage. It is our understanding that if you do not have copies of these bills, you can request copies of them from PG&E.
